Before your toxin treatment

Before your botulinum toxin appointment, please take note of and follow these important guidelines to ensure a safe and successful treatment:

Health and Skin Condition: It is essential for patients to be in good health with no active skin infections in the treatment area. If you have any concerns about your health or skin condition, please inform your provider before the appointment.

Avoid Alcoholic and Caffeinated Beverages: Refrain from consuming alcoholic and caffeinated beverages for at least 24 hours before your treatment. Alcohol can thin the blood, increasing the risk of bruising during injections.

Medication Precautions: Ideally, avoid anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications for two (2) weeks prior to treatment and for a few days after the procedure. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John's Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDs can thin the blood and may lead to increased bruising and swelling after injections.

Special Events: If you have a special event planned, schedule your botulinum toxin appointment at least 2-4 weeks in advance. This will help avoid having any bruising on the day of your event.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will need to postpone your botulinum toxin treatment. While there is limited data on the safety of these treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is best to avoid them during this time to prioritize your and your baby's health.

Allergies and Sensitivities: Inform your provider of any known allergies or sensitivities to botulinum toxin or any other ingredients in the treatment. This will help ensure that the appropriate formulation is used for your specific needs.

Medical History: Share your complete medical history with your provider, including any past cosmetic treatments or surgeries. Additionally, mention any medical conditions, past treatments, or medications you are currently taking.

Stay Hydrated: Ensure you are well-hydrated before your appointment. Drinking enough water can help with blood circulation and may reduce the risk of bruising.

Discuss Treatment Goals: Have a clear discussion with your provider about your treatment goals and expectations. This will allow them to tailor the treatment to achieve the desired outcome.

Avoid Strenuous Activities: Refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activities or heavy lifting on the day of the treatment. This can help reduce the risk of bruising and swelling at the injection sites.

Arrive with Clean Skin: On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin, free from makeup, lotions, or other products. Your provider will cleanse the treatment area before administering the injections.
