Before your filler treatment

Preparing for your dermal filler treatment is essential for a smooth and successful experience. Please adhere to the following guidelines before your appointment:

Health and Skin Condition: Ensure you are in good health with no active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area. If you have any medical concerns or skin conditions, discuss them with your provider before the appointment.

Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications and Supplements: Ideally, discontinue the use of blood-thinning medications and supplements, such as Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and other essential fatty acids, for about two weeks before the treatment. These substances can increase the risk of bleeding, bruising, and swelling at the injection sites.

Alcohol and Caffeine: Refrain from consuming alcohol and excessive caffeine at least 24 hours before your dermal filler treatment. Both alcohol and caffeine can contribute to thinning the blood, which may lead to increased bruising during the procedure and prolonged swelling afterward.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure and heat exposure for 24 hours prior to the treatment. Sunburned or heated skin can be more sensitive and may not react well to the filler injections.

Discontinue Retinol: Two days before and two days after the dermal filler treatment, stop using retinol-strength topical face creams. These products can increase skin sensitivity and irritation during the treatment.

No Makeup: On the day of your appointment, come with clean skin and avoid wearing makeup or lipstick. This allows for proper cleansing of the treatment area before the procedure.

Hydration: Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated skin tends to respond better to dermal filler injections.

Herpes Prophylactic Medication: If you have a history of oral herpes (cold sores), it is essential to be on prophylactic antiviral medication before your dermal filler appointment. Patients with active herpes outbreaks or those with a known history not on prophylaxis will not be treated until the infection is fully resolved.

Discuss Treatment Goals: Have a thorough consultation with your provider to discuss your treatment goals and desired outcomes. This will help them understand your expectations and customize the treatment accordingly.

Arrive with Clean Skin: Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free from any makeup, lotions, or products. Your provider will ensure the treatment area is properly prepped before the dermal filler injections.

By following these pre-treatment instructions, you can optimize your dermal filler experience and maximize the benefits of the treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to communicate with your provider before the appointment. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities.
